As Fall / Winter New York Fashion Week came to a close this past weekend, I scrutinized the web for four common trends I saw this year that would be hitting stores come Fall. What was new, what was exciting, and the designers that I thought were straight up KILLING it with creativity. It’s always exciting to see the forecasted trends that cutting edge designers are launching for the world!
Blast from the Past: A trend that never seems to fail in the world of fashion for fall and winter is the 1960s vintage throwback. Every year we see a new adaptation of tweed, contrasting patterns, and cozy pairings of knits. It is one style that I thoroughly enjoy seeing every year because of my own personal style preference. One designer that highlights this dreamy Woodstock era is Anna Sui. She moves through the color wheel on the runway using likewise hues that seem so effortless. Her silhouettes ode to the area, but makes them modern with a spin on pattern and style. Another designer that seriously kills the trend is La DoubleJ. Their pattern mixing is divine: loud mismatch prints that are refining that classic, 60’s silhouette.

90’s Grunge: The underground grunge style has been influencing youth culture for the past few years now (shocker). Don’t expect it to go away anytime soon as designers rolled out their gothic twist this year. Jeremy Scott, known for his eccentric, crazy-cool line, plastered newsprint-like block lettering across the runway. In all black and white, buzz words like scandal, tragic, and meltdown are front and center, as if mirroring the clickbait culture, we live in today.

Monochromatic: I’ve always been a fan of monochromatic color schemes. I think it shows the beauty and range of the color. Kate Spade incorporated their influence along the catwalk this year in gorgeous jewel tones. Mixed in with some animal print, these styles made a statement across the board. Kate Spade has always aired on the side of tailored sophistication and this fall ready-to-wear collection is silky, fearless, and one to be watched for.

Suiting: I love the idea of a good suit. One that takes on the day, makes you feel like a badass, and demands attention. Nowadays trousers and blazers are mixed in with everyday wear so that it is not only versatile but elevates the look. Victoria Beckham and Gucci are two designers that have really experimented with the trend. Patterns, embellishments, and color contrast create a sleek, modern look for the office. They are pushing the boundaries of work wear, and I for one am here for the creativity.
